Title: Peter U. Giesbrecht fonds
Dates: 1966
Extent: 13 p.
Peter U. Giesbrecht, minister, farmer, and tradesman, was born February 26, 1906 in New Hope, Manitoba. He was the fifth of nine children born to his parents Heinrich H. and Elizabeth (nee Unruh) Giesbrecht. Two of his siblings died in infancy and then his mother died when he was seven. His father remarried Helene Peters the following year and together they had 13 children -- three of which died as infants. Giesbrecht married Agatha Enns on June 27, 1937. They first setted in Hordean where Giesbrecht worked as a barber in addition to cutting and hauling wood. They then moved to Sperling where they bought a farm. Here they lived for eight years and began a family. Altogether their marriage produced three children. Sadly their only son died tragically at the age of 17. After Sperling, Giesbrecht moved with his family to Homewood where they lived until retiring in 1974. Giesbrecht was elected by Homewood Mennonite Church in 1945 and then ordained on August 3, 1947. He faithfully served as their minister for 20 years. Peter U. Giesbrecht suffered a stroke and died on July 22, 1987.
This fonds contains sermon notes and several sermons two of which are based on Luke 8:22-26 and Luke 23:26-47.
